In 2005, with the help of Oboro’s New Media Lab, I created my first work involving the depiction of a human subject which was not a public performance. This video project, made out of several photographs of myself, led me to explore a new artistic field in my testing of disciplinary boundaries. Using still images and morphing software, I succeeded in creating an effect of movement resembling aquatic agitation, the slow progress of a body languorously expanding and contracting. A solitary action without narrative, The Lost Shield evokes solitude, silence and incomprehension. Often seen as a “moving painting”, this work has been shown in a loop in various exhibition spaces and video festivals.
