The Centre Est-Nord-Est at Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, invited three artists, Manon Labrecque, Diane Landry and Chantale Laplante, to create a work within the framework of the event entitled “Accordeons”. On this occasion, Diane Landry produced an enormous coloured and motorised pair of bellows. When fully stretched out they attain the height of a person. This curious object is animated by spasmodic stretchings, hesitances, abrupt movements and panting moments of rest. The unpredictable extent of its stretching is beyond our understanding. The sound that accompanies this strange object is produced by crackings, great straining and from the forcing of the motor. For it is effort that particularly characterises these robust bellows, which are striving to breathe. The arrhymia and asthma that emerge from this work affect our perception.
